The 2010 St Thomas's club and ladies captains thanked all members and everyone at the club for their support throughout the year which helped them raise more than £4,500 for the Stroke Association.
Putting-out for the final time at the annual general meeting, 2010 club captain Jim Burns and ladies’ captain Michelle McHale, pictured, said their year had been brilliant.
Both captains raised money for the same charity during the year - with money still coming in, the final total raised is set to be even higher, we’ll let you know the final amount as soon as everything is added up.
Jim and Michelle thanked all those who had been involved in a range of fundraising events across the year which have included the captain’s charity day at the club, Jim running the Tamworth 10K race with other club members, the successful 100-holes-in-a-day by Dan Lowe and Aaron Brookes as well as a host of other fundraising events - please read previous blog posts.
Jim told the meeting of members that the support for the range of fundraising throughout the year had been “brilliant” and all were a great success in raising a large amount for the charity.
He added that the highlight of the year had been playing alongside his St Thomas’s team mates in the finals of the Mail on Sunday Classic in El Rompido in Spain, the world’s biggest amateur golf tournament. He described getting the finals as a great achievement for the team and the club and it had been a great experience and pleasure playing alongside the other members of the team.
The successful team was made up of Paul McHale, Harry Foley, Pally McGahan, John Woodward, Tony Wilby, Adam Ward along with none playing captain Shaun Barlow.
The meeting marked the official handover to the new 2011 captains with Mick Lydell becoming club captain and Val Rooney taking the role of lady captain. This year’s vice-captains were also announced, vice club captain is Adam Ward and vice ladies’ captain is Laura Malpass.
Both new captains are looking forward to a similarly good year raising money for St Giles hospice in memory of one of the club’s longest members Barry Haycock who passed away at the Lichfield hospice recently.
A range of fundraising events are already planned including a casino night at the club in September, full details of all events will be posted on the club website and the blog.
