The St Thomas’s green keeping staff are keeping busy with a packed programme of course improvement work planned for this winter which includes changes to fairways, tees, bunkers and tree planting, which follows extensive improvement work last winter.
The most noticeable development will be the planned creation of a ditch across the 3rd fairway, pictured, at the dog leg, 100 yards before the green, a small pool will be built at the end of the ditch on the left-hand side of the fairway.
The rough on the right-hand side of the fairway will also be cleared including the removal of an old hawthorn hedgerow, along with additional tree planting.
Three new tees are planned including the construction of a new ladies’ tee on the 18th hole, between the first and second pool, and new tees on the 7th and 13th holes.
Existing tees which have become excessively worn will also be returfed. Bunkers throughout the course are set to be improved.
Five bunkers in total are set to be turfed over and removed on the 1st, the 4th, the old greenside bunker on the 10th and the clubhouse bunker by the 18th green along with the roadside bunker next to the practise area, a new greenside bunker will also be added by the 10th green.
